My son & I read this together. We enjoyed reading about the numerous adventures the Alden children went on while on the island. Very good read for any child looking to gain accelerated reading points!
This was one of my favorite books as a child. The kids have an awesome adventure and is very interesting. It keeps kids attention bc the kids are always doing something.
I discovered these and read these to my children in the 80s and 90s. Although I like the first four volumes the best, we read them all. Now I send them to my grandchildren, who report loving them as their parents did. Not sure about all the political correct fussing. The plot presented in this book is a child's dream. I wanted to spend the summer at a place like this with my cousins without parents bugging us.
The Boxcar Children take an exciting camping and canoeing excursion in Maine to investigate a 40-year-old mystery. These books stimulated my imagination as a child and hold up well for children today. I'd recommend reading the first couple books to become acquainted with the main characters, and read them to elementary school-age down to about age 4.
Bought it for my twin great grandchildren, but read it first. Great book, as are all of the Boxcar Children books. I recommend it for any child (or grandmother).
I've loved this series for many years, so I'm introducing it to my sons. But although they enjoyed this one, they didn't like it quite as much as the first book. Still, I suspect that they'll grow to like it more as we proceed onwards through the series and may want to come back to it in the future. Lots of surprises already and many more to come in this fabulous series!
Great Series!! I purchased Books 1-4, for an 8-year old...she absolutely loves them. She enjoys reading regardless; however, since she is required to read 30-minutes every night for school, the chapter books come in very handy. More often than not, she reads beyond her 30-minutes, because she wants to finish a certain chapter, and on a few occasions, she has completed the entire book before going to bed. The stories are great, fun, interesting, the illustrations are okay. She looks forward to following the main characters throughout the different series.
