A legendary love, an unforgiving curse, and the discovery of a lifetime . . .

Centuries ago a vengeful curse buried itself deep into the history of the MacLaoch clan and become a legendary tale told by all those not cursed by its words.

In present-day Scotland, the laird and chieftain of the MacLaoch clan is an ex-Royal Air Force fighter pilot who has been past the gates of hell and returned a changed man. Rowan MacLaoch does battle with wartime memories and a family curse that threaten to consume him—unaware that his life and that of the history of the clan will be changed forever by the arrival of an American woman.

Cole Baker, a feisty recent graduate of a master’s program, stumbles upon the ancient curse while researching her bloodlines. Moved by the history of the MacLaoch clan and the mystery of its chief, she digs into the legend that had been anything but quiet for centuries.

On their quest for answers, Cole and Rowan travel to places they have never before been and become witnesses to things they have never before fathomed. The legend—one started with blood—will end with more shed as its creator finally exacts her justice.

The Legend of Lady MacLaoch edition by Becky Banks Romance eBooks

Our heroine, an American, is thrust into a Scottish old battle to lift an apparent curse over the chieftain of the MacLoach clan. While researching an old ancestor, she discovers the Legend of the Lady MacLoach, and her possible connection. Without any spoilers, let me only add that there are a few supernatural moments threaded throughout the story, adding to the thrill of this read.
Although there were a couple of edits needed, they in no way detracted from the story. It was a great read, difficult not to inhaler in one night! The storyline is well mapped, the characters are fairly well fleshed out and the lovely setting is beautifully detailed. 5 stars given without hesitation.

I don't usually choose this kind of subject matter, but it drew me in and. I'm glad I decided to read this book. It's filled with exciting plots and the characters really come alive.I couldn't put it down till I read the book.
Oh! I wanted to be HER......the gal who researches family history that leads to a castle in Scotland!! Isn't that what every girl dreams of at one time? Especially when there's a big handsome Clan Chieftan who knows more about her family history (and the centuries old family curse) than she does? Ahhh, but the honor of being invited to the annual Clan Reunion turns ugly. A fascinating story of discovery, intrigue, romance, jealousy and a bit of fighting over the newly discovered Minory clan member. Not sure I'd hold up to the challenges she encounters in her research process. Maybe I DON'T want to be her! But it is a fascinating journey and it was fun reading with a bit of the brogue! Interesting descriptions of the beauty of Scotland. So, I lost a night's sleep because I just had to know the ending!! I hope you'll give it a try! I really enjoyed the story!
This was such an enjoyable read. I loved the setting. She made it so descriptive I felt like I could actually see the gardens, the cliffs and the ocean. It is set in the present day but it feels like it is playing out in the past. The two had great chemistry together, even when they were fighting. When he threw her in the ocean, I thought I would die laughing. They both did unexpected things so you could never quite figure them out. The paranormal theme was an added bonus.
I love that this was a modern day romance based in Scotland with historical flare. It's been awhile since I was unable to put a book down. This book keeps you on the edge awaiting the answers you desperately seek and the payoff is worth the wait. Highly, highly recommend. While historical Scottish highland romance novels are my favorite, we need more authors to put a modern spin to pull us in and this book is a prime example of just that!
This book hasn't been reviewed very much and I didn't have high expectations, but the story summary intrigued me. When I read a romance, I tend to prefer historical and this is called paranormal, and I guess that's right, but for I kept thinking Gothic. I was reminded of some of my favorite stories of my youth by Victoria Holt like "Bride of Pendorric" It's a compelling page-turner with colorful characters and a mystery to be unraveled. The author does a great job with the Scottish accent -- I felt like I was talking to one of my friends who was born and raised in Scotland. The hero, Rowan, is my favorite type tortured, but flirty and playful when the opportunity presents itself. The heroine, (Ni)Cole, was spunky and tough when she needed to be --- no simpering Miss - actually loved how tough she was. I never do this, but I'm tempted to buy this in the hard-copy version just to have the actual book sitting on my shelf reminding me of the wonderful journey it provided. s are great, but for me doesn't give me quite the same feel. ... Anyway - *sigh* just a lovely romance that I HIGHLY recommend )
With so many favorable reviews, I decided to try this book. Am I glad I did! The typos are minimal and the story is easy to follow. I didn't really believe the "ghostly energy" part, but was glad to willingly suspend my disbelief and enjoy the exciting paranormal happenings. It is a fast-moving, suspenseful novel. It was a bit tiresome to keep seeing the Scottish "tae" for "to," but it helped to keep the Scottish laird Rowan MacLaoch sounding authentic. I was a little frustrated with heroine Cole's refusal to accept that her ancestor wasn't involved because she thought his last name was spelled with an "a" when everyone else was insisting that it was spelled with an "o." It made Cole come across as a fairly obnoxious American tourist. But once Cole moved past that, the story just whizzed by, and I found it hard to set the book aside. But speaking of problems with spelling, I wish I knew how to pronounce "MacLaoch". Someone will have tae let me know!

Well-written, exciting action, I definitely recommend this book for a great read.
Totally enjoyed this paranormal romance set in Scotland. Bound by a centuries-old curse, two descendants of lovers torn apart by clan warfare are drawn together by chemistry. . .and who wouldn't love a hot laird who lives in a castle, riddled by old war wounds and too much conscience? From the moment our curly-haired heroine sets off to find her oddly-named ancestor we know she's destined for something great. Enemies are slightly farfetched and over the top in the form of jealous sidekicks but overall Banks' prose races along and her descriptions of Scottish whiskey "smokey and silken as honey" and the velvety green countryside make me want to go find my roots too... a land where redheads abound, imagine that! Light a fire, curl up with a glass and escape into the Legend of Lady Maclaoch for a very good time.
